Decorating a Dresser how to make it the most beautiful piece in the room

Dressers are having a renaissance – and I am so grateful for it. This wonderful type of furniture, long considered old-fashioned, is actually the most practical and beautiful piece a kitchen or dining room can have. My dresser in the kitchen is the piece that receives the most compliments – and it cost exactly 85 euros at a flea market.

What makes a dresser so special function and beauty in one

The dresser – also called sideboard, kitchen buffet or credenza – had its fixed place in the ground floor of many older homes. Display surface on top, storage below. It was the face of the kitchen. In modern flats it was long displaced, but it is coming back.

1 · The display surface and glass fronts what to show and what to hide

Apply the triangle principle as with any sideboard. Behind glass: only show what is truly beautiful. A matching dinner service in white or with a delicate floral pattern, glasses in various shapes, beautiful tins and tea caddies.

In open shelves: wicker baskets for storage, a small pot with herbs, rolled linen napkins in a ceramic jug.

2 · My flea market dresser patina is not a flaw

My dresser came from a flea market in Saarbrücken. It was painted white, had slightly chipped paint and a drawer that sticks. I bought it for 85 euros. It is the most beautiful piece I own.

Frequently Asked Questions quick and clear answers

How do I decorate a dresser in country style?

Use the triangle principle: tall elements (vase, lamp), medium-sized (ceramics, cake stand) and small accents (candles, flowers). Behind glass fronts only show matching, beautiful crockery.

Where can I find beautiful vintage dressers?

Flea markets, eBay classifieds, Facebook Marketplace, antique dealers. Old white-painted examples from the 1950s-70s are wonderful and usually affordable.
